About Stephen

Licensed to sell real estate in Ohio since 1977.

Owned and operated Anderson Layman Company, a commercial and investment real estate brokerage, with business partner, David Anderson, from May of 1982 until June of 2018. Upon the retirement of Anderson from the brokerage business, Layman moved his brokers license to Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate, where he currently works.

Earned the CCIM, Certified Commercial Investment Member, designation in 1986.

Active in development of raw land, Layman has participated in the creation of multiple sub-divisions with almost 400 building lots.

Active in the development of new buildings, Layman has participated in the building of almost 200,000 square feet of retail space.

Active in the re-development of older buildings, Layman has participated in the renovation and re-use of more than twenty buildings, totaling more than 265,000 square feet. Included in this work was the conversion of the former Newark High School into a 29 unit apartment building using historic tax credits.

Active with the development, and redevelopment, for multi-family uses.

Past President of the Licking County Board of Realtors.

Long time member, and chair, of Newark City’s Board of Zoning Appeals.

Long time board member, and chair, of the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority.

Past Board member of the St. Vincent de Paul Housing Facilities.

Board member, and board secretary, of Newark Development Partners CIC.

Board member, and chair, of the Downtown Newark Special Improvement District.

Past Board member of the Midland Theatre.

Past director of the Licking County Chamber of Commerce.

Past Trustee for the Licking County Library.

An alum of Denison University, he lives in Newark with wife Michele.
